Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to count objects and place them in corresponding cups, using plastic cups as counting aids.
Materials and Prep
- Plastic cups
- Various objects for counting (e.g., small toys, buttons, beads)
No additional preparation is needed for this lesson.
Activities
- Count and Sort: Place a set of objects in front of the student and ask them to count the objects. Then, have them sort the objects into different cups based on their count. For example, if they counted 3 objects, they should place those objects in the cup labeled "3".
- Count and Match: Show the student a number card with a numeral (e.g., "4") and ask them to count out that number of objects and place them in the corresponding cup.
- Count and Stack: Stack the cups in a tower and ask the student to count the cups as they remove them from the stack one by one. Encourage them to place each cup in the correct order as they count.
- Count and Hide: Hide a certain number of objects under cups and ask the student to count how many objects are hidden. They can then lift the cups one by one to check their count.
