Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of Barack Obama and his role as the 44th President of the United States.

Materials and Prep

  • Whiteboard or large paper
  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Printed pictures of Barack Obama
  • Printed map of the United States

Activities

  1. Introduction: Show the student pictures of Barack Obama and ask if they recognize him. Explain that he was the President of the United States.

  2. Discussion: Ask the student what they know about presidents. Explain that presidents are leaders of the country and make important decisions.

  3. Map Activity: Show the student a map of the United States. Point to the location of Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. Explain that this is where the President lives and works.

  4. Coloring Activity: Give the student a printed picture of Barack Obama and ask them to color it. While they color, briefly talk about some of the things Barack Obama did as President, such as helping people and making laws.

  5. Discussion: Ask the student how they think Barack Obama made a difference as President. Encourage them to share their thoughts and ideas.
