Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a visual artwork inspired by autumn and develop an appreciation for the beauty of the season.
Materials and Prep
- Blank paper or sketchbook
- Pencils, erasers, and colored pencils or markers
- Reference materials with images of autumn scenes (books, magazines, or online resources)
Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with the basic elements of art such as color, shape, and texture.
Activities
- Begin by discussing the characteristics of autumn with the student. Talk about the colors, weather, and changes in nature during this season.
- Encourage the student to find reference materials with images of autumn scenes. They can look for photographs, paintings, or even create a collage of images that represent autumn to them.
- Guide the student to sketch an outline of their chosen autumn scene on the blank paper or sketchbook. Remind them to pay attention to the composition and placement of elements.
- Once the outline is complete, instruct the student to add colors using colored pencils or markers. Encourage them to experiment with different shades to capture the essence of autumn.
- After coloring, ask the student to add details and textures to their artwork. They can use hatching, cross-hatching, or stippling techniques to create depth and visual interest.
- Allow the student to share their finished artwork with you, discussing the choices they made and the emotions they wanted to convey through their piece.
