Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to effectively use processes of planning, monitoring, revising, and reflecting to support and develop composition of texts.
Materials and Prep
- Paper or notebook
- Pen or pencil
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Brainstorming: Have the student choose a topic they are interested in writing about. Ask them to brainstorm ideas related to the topic, encouraging them to think creatively and freely. They can write down their ideas in a mind map or a list.
-
Planning: Once the student has a list of ideas, guide them in selecting the most interesting and relevant ones for their composition. Help them create an outline or a rough structure for their text, including an introduction, main points, and a conclusion.
-
Writing: Let the student start writing their composition based on the outline. Encourage them to focus on expressing their ideas clearly and coherently. Remind them to refer back to their brainstorming and planning notes as needed.
-
Monitoring and revising: Teach the student the importance of reviewing their work. Encourage them to read their composition aloud, checking for any areas that need improvement or clarification. Help them identify areas where they can add more details or examples to strengthen their writing.
-
Reflecting: After revising, have the student reflect on their writing process. Ask them questions such as: What did they learn from this experience? What challenges did they face? What strategies were helpful? Encourage them to write a short reflection on their composition and the process they used.
