Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:
- Understand the concept of time
- Identify different units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days)
- Recognize and read a clock
- Understand the sequence of events in history
- Create a simple artwork related to time
- Engage in physical activities related to time
Materials and Prep
- Large wall clock
- Paper and coloring materials
- History book or online resources
- Open space for physical activities
Activities
-
Create a Clock
Guide the student to draw a large circle on a piece of paper. Help them label the numbers 1 through 12 around the circle. Then, demonstrate how to draw the hour and minute hands. Let the student practice drawing the hands themselves.
-
History Time Travel
Read a short story or show pictures from a history book about a specific time period, such as ancient Egypt or the Middle Ages. Discuss the events and people from that time period with the student. Encourage them to ask questions and share their thoughts.
-
Physical Time Challenge
Set up a mini obstacle course or a series of physical activities with different time challenges. For example, ask the student to jump rope for 1 minute, run in place for 30 seconds, and do 10 jumping jacks. Use the wall clock to time each activity and let the student complete the challenges.
-
Artistic Time
Encourage the student to create a simple artwork related to time. Provide them with coloring materials and ask them to draw a picture of their favorite time of the day or a clock with their favorite activities. Let them be creative and express their ideas through art.
