Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with access to Minecraft
  • A notebook or paper
  • A pen or pencil

Before starting this lesson, make sure you have basic knowledge of the Minecraft game mechanics and characters.

Activities

  • Create a Minecraft character profile: Write a detailed description of your Minecraft character, including their appearance, personality, and skills. Think about what makes your character unique and how they fit into the Minecraft world.
  • Build a Minecraft setting: Choose a location in the Minecraft world and build it using blocks. Use your creativity to make it visually appealing and describe the setting in your story.
  • Develop a plot: Think of an exciting adventure or challenge for your Minecraft character to overcome. Plan out the main events and obstacles they will face in your story.
  • Write your story: Using your character profile, setting, and plot, start writing your Minecraft-inspired story. Be descriptive and imaginative, bringing the Minecraft world to life in your words.

Talking Points

  • Character Profile: "Think about how your Minecraft character looks. What kind of clothes or armor do they wear? Are they tall, short, or somewhere in between? Describe their personality and any special abilities they might have."
  • Building a Setting: "Imagine a place in the Minecraft world where your story takes place. What does it look like? Is it a lush forest, a towering mountain, or a mysterious cave? Use blocks to create that setting, and describe it in your story."
  • Developing a Plot: "What kind of adventure or challenge will your Minecraft character face? Will they have to defeat a powerful enemy, solve a puzzle, or find a hidden treasure? Plan out the main events and obstacles that your character will encounter."
  • Writing the Story: "Now it's time to bring your Minecraft character, setting, and plot together in a story. Start with an engaging introduction, build up the action in the middle, and conclude with a satisfying ending. Don't forget to include descriptive details and dialogue to make your story come alive."
