Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to apply their knowledge of Art, English, Math, and Science to the field of cooking, and understand the importance of these subjects in culinary arts.

Materials and Prep

  • Recipe book or cooking resources
  • Basic understanding of cooking terminology and techniques

Activities

  • Create a recipe illustration:

    Ask the student to choose a favorite recipe and create an illustration that represents the dish. Encourage them to use their artistic skills to make the illustration visually appealing.

  • Write a recipe description:

    Have the student write a detailed description of how to prepare their chosen recipe. Emphasize the importance of clear and concise instructions.

  • Measurement conversions:

    Provide the student with a recipe that requires measurement conversions (e.g., converting cups to ounces). Ask them to solve the conversions using their math skills.

  • Food science experiment:

    Choose a simple food science experiment, such as observing the effects of heat on different ingredients. Have the student document their observations and draw conclusions based on their findings.
