Provide the student with a set of simple sentences printed on separate cards. Have the student arrange the words in each sentence in the correct order to form a complete sentence. Encourage the student to read out loud the completed sentences.
Show the student a set of pictures representing different actions or objects. Provide the student with a set of printed words or phrases related to the pictures. Have the student match the correct word or phrase to each picture. This activity will help reinforce vocabulary and sentence structure.
Select a short story appropriate for a 6-year-old. Read the story aloud to the student and pause at certain points to ask comprehension questions. Encourage the student to answer using complete sentences, incorporating the ACELA1444 standard.
Talking Points
- "Today, we are going to learn how to use complete sentences in English."
- "A complete sentence has a subject and a predicate. The subject is who or what the sentence is about, and the predicate tells us what the subject is doing or what is happening to it."
- "When we build sentences, we need to make sure the words are in the correct order. We start with the subject, then the verb, and finally the object or additional information."
- "Let's practice building sentences. Look at these words and arrange them in the correct order to make a sentence."
- "Now, let's match words or phrases to the pictures. Can you find the correct word or phrase that describes what is happening in each picture?"
- "It's story time! Listen carefully to the story, and after I finish reading, I will ask you questions. Try to answer using complete sentences."
