Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and discuss the topic of Indianer (Native Americans) in German.
Materials and Prep
- Pen and paper
- Printed pictures or drawings of Indianer
No prior knowledge of German is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Begin by showing the student pictures or drawings of Indianer. Ask them if they know who the Indianer are and what they know about them.
- Explain that you will be learning some German words related to Indianer. Write down the following words and their translations on the board or a piece of paper:
- Indianer - Native Americans
- Wigwam - Wigwam
- Pfeil und Bogen - Bow and arrow
- Totempfahl - Totem pole
- Practice the pronunciation of each word together. Repeat each word a few times and encourage the student to repeat after you.
- Use the words in simple sentences to reinforce their meaning. For example, "Die Indianer wohnten in Wigwams" (The Native Americans lived in wigwams).
- Have the student write down the German words and their translations in their notebook. Encourage them to draw pictures next to each word to help with memory recall.
