Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your English and Math skills while learning about commas, all while incorporating your interest in drums.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pen/pencil
  • Drumsticks or any drumming equipment you have
  • Access to a computer or smartphone for online resources (optional)

Activities

  • Activity 1: Drumming and Commas
  • Combine your love for drums with learning about commas. Write a short paragraph about your favorite drumming technique or your experience playing drums. Make sure to include appropriate commas in your writing. Practice reading your paragraph aloud, paying attention to the pauses indicated by the commas.

  • Activity 2: Comma Practice Worksheet
  • Complete a comma practice worksheet. Create sentences or short paragraphs related to drumming and insert the correct commas where necessary. You can find printable worksheets online or create your own.

  • Activity 3: Drumming Math
  • Apply your math skills to drumming. Create a drumming rhythm using different beats and drumming patterns. Write down the notation for your rhythm using numbers and symbols. Then, solve math problems related to your rhythm, such as counting the number of beats in a measure, calculating the duration of each beat, or finding the average tempo of your rhythm.
