Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 3-year-old student will have learned about history through the fun activity of dress up.

Materials and Prep

  • A collection of dress-up clothes (costumes, hats, accessories, etc.)
  • A mirror
  • A designated dress-up area
  • A small whiteboard or paper and markers

Before starting the lesson, make sure the dress-up clothes are clean and easily accessible for the student.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Dress-Up Exploration
  • Allow the student to freely explore the dress-up clothes and encourage them to try on different outfits. Ask them questions about how they feel in each costume and what they think the characters might have done in history.

  • Activity 2: Dress-Up Storytelling
  • Encourage the student to choose a costume and create a story based on the character they become. They can act out the story or draw pictures to illustrate it.

  • Activity 3: Dress-Up Parade
  • Organize a dress-up parade where the student can showcase their favorite costume to family members or friends. They can share a little bit about the character they are portraying and why they chose that costume.

Talking Points

  • "History is about things that happened a long time ago."
  • "When we dress up, we can pretend to be people from history."
  • "What do you think this costume represents? How do you think people in history used to dress?"
  • "Can you tell me a story about the character you became with the costume?"
  • "Let's have a parade and show everyone our costumes! What makes your character special?"
