Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use building blocks to create different structures and describe them using English words.

Materials and Prep

  • Building blocks of various shapes and sizes
  • A clean and safe play area
  • Enthusiasm and creativity!

Activities

  • Free Play: Allow the student to explore and build with the building blocks freely. Encourage them to use their imagination and create different structures.
  • Shape Sorting: Ask the student to sort the building blocks by shape. Help them identify and name the different shapes they encounter. For example, "Look, this block is a square! Can you find another square block?"
  • Building Challenge: Give the student a specific challenge, such as building a tall tower or a bridge. Encourage them to describe their creation using English words. For example, "Wow, your tower is so tall! How many blocks did you use?"
  • Storytelling: Ask the student to create a story using the building blocks. They can build different scenes and describe what is happening using English words. For example, "Once upon a time, there was a princess who lived in a castle made of blocks."

Talking Points

  • Building blocks come in different shapes and sizes. We can find squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles!
  • When we build with blocks, we can make towers, houses, and bridges. What else can you build?
  • Using English words, we can describe our creations. We can say things like "tall tower," "colorful house," or "strong bridge."
  • Building with blocks helps us use our imagination and be creative.
  • It's important to have fun while building with blocks and learning English!
