Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pens or pencils
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Role Play: Choose a familiar scenario, such as ordering food at a restaurant or asking for directions. Take turns playing different roles and practice your communication skills in that context.
-
Guess the Context: Write down different scenarios on separate pieces of paper and put them in a hat. Take turns picking a scenario and then communicate as if you were in that context. The other person has to guess the context based on your communication.
-
Storytelling: Each of you will take turns telling a story. Start with a sentence and then continue building the story together. Focus on using clear and descriptive language to communicate effectively.
Talking Points
- Context Matters: Different situations require different types of communication. Adjust your language and tone based on the context.
- Clarity is Key: Make sure your message is clear and easy to understand. Use proper grammar and avoid unnecessary jargon.
- Active Listening: Pay attention to the person you are communicating with. Show interest and ask questions to ensure you understand their message.
- Nonverbal Communication: Remember that communication is not just about words. Pay attention to your body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice.
- Practice Makes Perfect: The more you practice communicating in different contexts, the better you will become. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.
