Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand what bullying is and how to deal with it.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are required for this lesson.
  • It would be helpful to have a quiet and comfortable learning environment.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Role Play - Pretend to be different characters and act out scenarios where one character is being mean to another. Discuss how it feels to be bullied and how to respond.

  • Activity 2: Draw and Talk - Ask the student to draw a picture of a time they felt bullied or saw someone being bullied. Then have a conversation about the drawing and the emotions involved.

  • Activity 3: Story Time - Read a book about bullying, such as "The Recess Queen" by Alexis O'Neill, and discuss the characters and their actions. Talk about what could have been done differently to prevent or handle the bullying.

  • "Bullying is when someone is mean to another person on purpose."

  • "Bullying can happen at school, at home, or even online."

  • "It's important to tell a trusted adult if you are being bullied or if you see someone else being bullied."

  • "Remember, it's not your fault if someone bullies you. No one deserves to be treated badly."

  • "You can stand up to bullying by being kind, helping others, and including everyone."
