Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:
- Create a dog-inspired artwork
- Identify and name different parts of a dog
- Count and perform basic addition using dog-themed objects
Materials and Prep
To complete this lesson, you will need:
- Blank paper or canvas
- Coloring materials (crayons, markers, or colored pencils)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Dog pictures or books about dogs
- Dog-themed objects for counting (such as dog biscuits or small toy dogs)
Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with basic dog body parts and prepare some dog-themed objects for counting activities.
Activities
- Create a Dog Collage: Have the student cut out pictures of dogs from magazines or draw their own. Then, they can glue the pictures onto a piece of paper or canvas to create a dog collage.
- Dog Parts Identification: Show the student pictures of different dogs and ask them to identify and name different parts of the dog, such as the ears, tail, and paws.
- Dog Counting: Use the dog-themed objects for counting activities. Ask the student to count how many objects there are and then perform simple addition by adding more objects to the group.
Talking Points
- "Dogs come in many different shapes and sizes. Some are big, and some are small."
- "Dogs have floppy ears that can wiggle when they are happy."
- "Can you point to the dog's tail? It helps them wag and show their emotions."
- "Dogs have paws that they use for walking and running. They can leave paw prints behind."
- "Let's count how many dog biscuits we have. 1, 2, 3! We have three biscuits!"
- "If we add two more biscuits, how many will we have? Let's count and find out."
