Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your balance and coordination skills on the balance beam.
Materials and Prep
- A balance beam (can be a long, narrow object like a piece of tape on the floor)
- A clear space to practice
Activities
- Walking on the balance beam: Practice walking forwards and backwards on the balance beam, keeping your arms out to the sides for balance.
- Balance beam tightrope: Pretend you are a tightrope walker and try to walk on the balance beam without falling off. Take slow, careful steps.
- Balancing objects: Place small objects like stuffed animals or bean bags on your head and try to walk on the balance beam without dropping them.
- Jumping on and off: Practice jumping on and off the balance beam, landing with both feet together. Start with small jumps and gradually increase the height of the jumps.
- Balancing challenges: Create different challenges for yourself, such as walking on tiptoes, walking with your eyes closed, or walking sideways on the balance beam.
