Objective
By the end of this Physical Education lesson, you will have explored the connection between art and physical activity, and gained a better understanding of how movement can enhance creativity.
Materials and Prep
- A spacious area to move around
- Comfortable clothing
- A variety of art supplies (e.g., paper, pencils, markers, paints)
Activities
Artistic Warm-up: Start by doing some simple stretches to warm up your body. As you stretch, imagine your body as a paintbrush, moving gracefully and fluidly.
Dance Painting: Put on some energetic music and let your body move freely. As you dance, hold a paintbrush or marker and create expressive lines and shapes on a large sheet of paper.
Obstacle Course Art: Set up a creative obstacle course using objects from your surroundings. As you navigate through the course, challenge yourself to incorporate artistic movements, such as leaping like a ballerina or crawling like a spider.
Yoga Art: Explore different yoga poses that resemble art-inspired shapes, such as the tree pose or the downward dog pose. As you hold each pose, imagine yourself as a living sculpture.
Collaborative Art: Find a partner or family member and create a collaborative artwork. Take turns adding artistic elements while engaging in physical movements, such as tossing a ball or dancing together.
