By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a variety of artworks that reflect your experiences, responses, or point of view.

Materials and Prep

  • Sketchbook or drawing paper
  • Pencils, erasers, and sharpeners
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Watercolor paints and brushes
  • Mixed media materials (optional)

No prior knowledge or experience is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Self-Portrait

Create a self-portrait using pencils or colored pencils. Focus on capturing your facial features and expressions. Think about how you want to represent yourself through this artwork.

  2. Activity 2: Landscape Painting

Choose a landscape that holds significance to you, such as a favorite place or a memorable experience. Use watercolor paints to create a painting that reflects the mood and emotions associated with that place.

  3. Activity 3: Collage of Memories

Gather old magazines, newspapers, or printed materials. Cut out images, words, or phrases that remind you of important experiences or moments in your life. Arrange and glue them onto a piece of paper to create a collage that represents your memories.

  4. Activity 4: Abstract Expression

Create an abstract artwork using mixed media materials. Allow yourself to freely express your emotions, thoughts, or ideas without any specific subject matter. Experiment with different textures, colors, and shapes to convey your point of view.
