Materials and Prep

  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Swimming pool or access to a safe body of water
  • Adult supervision

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have your swimsuit on and your towel ready. It is important to have an adult present to supervise and ensure your safety throughout the lesson.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Water Exploration
  • Start by getting comfortable in the water. Practice floating on your back and stomach, and try blowing bubbles with your mouth and nose underwater.

  • Activity 3: Arm Movement Practice

  • Activity 4: Water Safety Skills
  • Learn about water safety rules, such as never swimming alone, always asking for permission before entering the water, and listening to the instructions of an adult supervisor.

Talking Points

  • Water is a lot of fun, but it's important to always have an adult with you when swimming.
  • When you're in the water, it's a good idea to start by getting comfortable. Floating on your back and stomach can help you feel more relaxed.
  • Kicking is an important part of swimming. Practice kicking your legs up and down to move through the water.
  • Now let's work on your arm movements. Pretend you are scooping water with your hands and pulling it towards your body.
  • Remember, safety is the most important thing. Always ask for permission before entering the water and listen to the instructions of an adult supervisor.
