Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the properties and importance of water.
Materials and Prep
- A clear glass of water
- A small bowl
- A dropper or straw
- A piece of paper
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a basic understanding of what water is and its role in our daily lives.
Activities
- Explore Water Properties: Fill the glass with water and discuss its properties. Talk about how water is transparent, tasteless, and odorless. Show how water can change its shape by pouring it into the bowl and then back into the glass.
- Water Drops on a Surface: Take the dropper or straw and fill it with water. Drop small water droplets onto the piece of paper. Observe how the water spreads and gets absorbed by the paper. Discuss the concept of absorption and how different materials interact with water.
- Water Cycle Role-Play: Explain the water cycle to the student using simple terms. Have them pretend to be a water droplet and act out the different stages of the water cycle, such as evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- "Water is something we use every day. We drink it, we wash with it, and plants and animals need it to live."
- "Water can be found in different places like rivers, lakes, and even in the sky as clouds."
- "When we pour water into a glass, it takes the shape of the glass. But when we pour it into a bowl, it takes the shape of the bowl."
- "Water can be absorbed by certain materials, like a sponge or paper. This is called absorption."
- "Sometimes water goes up into the sky as vapor, and then it cools down and turns into tiny droplets to form clouds. When the droplets get too heavy, they fall back to the ground as rain, snow, or hail. This is called precipitation."
