Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create artworks that combine real and imaginary experiences in a unique way.

Materials and Prep

Materials Needed:

  • White paper
  • Colorful markers or crayons
  • Imagination!

Preparation: Set up a comfortable workspace with good lighting and a flat surface for drawing.

Activities

1. Real vs. Imaginary: Draw a line down the center of your paper. On one side, draw something real that you have experienced. On the other side, let your imagination run wild and draw something imaginary.

2. Story Art: Think of a favorite story or create your own. Draw a scene from the story that combines elements of reality and fantasy.

3. Mix and Match: Draw a creature that is part real animal and part imaginary creature. What would it look like?

Talking Points

  • Real vs. Imaginary: "Let's draw something real that we have seen before, like a tree, and then imagine what kind of magical tree we can create!"
  • Story Art: "Stories can take us to magical places. Let's draw a scene from your favorite story and add some of our own magical touches."
  • Mix and Match: "What if we combine a lion with wings? Let's draw our own unique creature that is part real and part imaginary!"
