Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and describe different types of weather conditions.
Materials and Prep
- Weather flashcards or pictures
- Whiteboard or large paper
- Markers or crayons
- Weather-themed storybook
Activities
-
Start by showing your child the weather flashcards or pictures. Discuss each type of weather and ask them to describe what they see. For example, "What do you notice about the picture of the sunny day?"
-
Next, draw a large weather chart on the whiteboard or paper. Divide it into sections for different weather conditions such as sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, and snowy. Have your child help you label each section.
-
Ask your child to match the weather flashcards or pictures to the corresponding section on the weather chart. Encourage them to talk about each weather condition as they place the cards or pictures in the correct spot.
-
Read a weather-themed storybook together. Pause at different points in the story to ask your child questions about the weather mentioned in the book. For example, "What do you think the characters did on a rainy day?"
-
Wrap up the lesson by reviewing the weather chart with your child. Ask them to point to different weather conditions and describe them using their own words.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Weather is what we feel outside. It can be different every day."
- "Sunny weather means the sun is shining and it's bright outside."
- "Rainy weather means water is falling from the sky. We use umbrellas to stay dry."
- "Cloudy weather means the sky is covered with clouds. It might not be as bright outside."
- "Windy weather means there is a lot of air moving. It can make things blow around."
- "Snowy weather means it's cold and white stuff falls from the sky. We can make snowballs and build snowmen."
