Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to represent and describe the positions of objects in familiar locations.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Pen, paper, toys or objects from around the house
Prep: Clear a space to work in, make sure you have a variety of objects to work with
Activities
1. Hide and Seek: Place a toy in a location and describe where it is hidden using words like under, on top of, next to, etc. Have your student find the toy based on the description.
2. Drawing Map: Draw a simple map of a room in your house. Place objects in different positions within the room and have your student draw the objects on the map in the correct positions.
3. Simon Says: Play a game of Simon Says where you give instructions using position words. For example, "Simon says put your hand on your head."
Talking Points
- Objects can be in different positions like above, below, beside, in front of, and behind. Can you show me where your favorite toy is in relation to your chair? (Wait for response)
- When we describe where objects are, we use words like near, far, inside, and outside. Can you tell me where the book is in relation to the table? (Wait for response)
- Maps help us represent the positions of objects in a space. Let's draw a map of your room together and place objects on it. What should we draw first? (Wait for response)
- Playing games like Hide and Seek and Simon Says can help us practice using position words. Can you give me an example of a position word you remember from our game? (Wait for response)
