Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify connections between subject matter in artworks and what they refer to, and appreciate the use of particular techniques.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: paper, pencils, colored pencils or markers

No prior knowledge needed, just bring your creativity!

Activities

  • Create Your Own Masterpiece: Choose a subject that interests you and draw it using your favorite techniques.

  • Art Detective: Look at a famous artwork and try to guess what the subject matter is and what techniques the artist used.

  • Collaborative Art: Work with a family member or friend to create a piece of art that combines different subject matters and techniques.
