Objective
By the end of this lesson, the preschool student will be able to understand and discuss the story of "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and engage in basic writing activities related to the book.
Materials and Prep
- A copy of the book "Mr. Popper's Penguins"
- Paper and crayons/markers
- A computer or tablet with internet access (optional)
Activities
- Read Aloud: Begin by reading aloud the book "Mr. Popper's Penguins" to the student. Encourage them to listen carefully and ask questions if they need clarification.
- Story Discussion: Engage the student in a conversation about the story. Ask questions such as:
- "Who are the main characters in the book?"
- "Where does the story take place?"
- "What happens in the story?"
- "What is your favorite part of the story?"
- Draw and Write: Provide the student with paper and crayons/markers. Ask them to draw their favorite scene from the book and then write a sentence or two describing what is happening in their drawing. Encourage them to use their imagination and creativity.
- Online Research (optional): If you have access to a computer or tablet with internet access, you can explore more about penguins together. Look at pictures, watch videos, and learn interesting facts about penguins. Discuss what you discovered and ask the student to share their favorite penguin fact.
