Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand how to make water clean through simple experiments and observations.

Materials and Prep

  • 3 clear glasses of water
  • Dirt or sand
  • Coffee filter or paper towel
  • Plastic spoon
  • Access to sunlight
  • Adult supervision

Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a clean workspace and wash your hands.

Activities

  • Observing Dirty Water: Fill one glass with water and add a spoonful of dirt or sand. Observe how the water looks.
  • Filtering Water: Use a coffee filter or paper towel to filter the dirty water. Notice any changes in the water.
  • Sunlight Experiment: Place another glass of dirty water in sunlight for a few hours. Observe if the water looks cleaner afterwards.
