Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand the basics of renewable energy and its importance in protecting the environment.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Pen, paper, colored markers

Prep: None

Activities

  • Create a poster about renewable energy. Include drawings and facts about solar, wind, and hydro power.

  • Design your own wind turbine using paper and straws. Test it by blowing air on it to see how well it spins.

  • Watch a short video about solar panels and write down three interesting facts you learned.

Talking Points

  • Renewable energy comes from sources that are constantly replenished, like the sun and wind. Remember, these sources won't run out! Say: "Renewable energy is like having an endless supply of clean power."

  • Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity. This helps reduce the use of fossil fuels, which can harm the environment. Say: "Solar panels are like magic machines that turn sunlight into power for our homes."

  • Wind turbines use the wind's energy to generate electricity. They have big blades that spin when the wind blows. Say: "Wind turbines are like giant pinwheels that create energy when the wind blows."

  • Hydropower is generated from flowing water, like rivers or waterfalls. It's a clean and renewable source of energy. Say: "Hydropower is like using the force of water to create electricity."
