Objective

By the end of this lesson, the first-grade student will be able to write a short story using Star Wars characters and themes.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming Star Wars Characters:

Discuss with the student their favorite Star Wars characters and write them down on a piece of paper. Encourage the student to think of both heroes and villains.

  2. Creating a Story Plot:

Ask the student to choose a hero and a villain from their list of characters. Help them come up with a conflict between the two characters and write it down. For example, the hero might be trying to retrieve a stolen lightsaber from the villain.

  3. Writing the Story:

Guide the student in writing a short story based on the chosen conflict. Encourage them to include a beginning, middle, and end. Remind them to use descriptive words and to make the story exciting.

  4. Illustrating the Story:

After completing the story, have the student illustrate it using pencils or crayons. Encourage them to depict the characters and key moments from their story.

  • "Can you think of a good character to be the hero in our story? How about a character to be the villain?"
  • "What conflict can we create between the hero and the villain? What are they fighting over?"
  • "How can we make our story exciting and interesting? What kind of words can we use?"
  • "Why is it important to have a beginning, middle, and end in our story?"
  • "What parts of your story do you want to illustrate? How can you make your illustrations match the events in your story?"
