Objective

Materials and Prep

  • Bucket of chicken feed
  • Bucket of goat feed
  • Access to chicken coop and goat pen
  • Adult supervision

No special preparation needed, just be ready to have fun!

Activities

  • Feeding the Chickens: You will learn how to scatter the chicken feed in the coop and watch the chickens peck at it.
  • Feeding the Goats: You will get to feed the goats by hand and see how they eagerly munch on the feed.
  • Observation Time: Spend some time observing the chickens and goats after feeding them. Notice their behaviors and interactions.

Talking Points

  • Chickens need food to stay healthy and lay eggs. Say: "Chickens love to eat grains and seeds to give them energy and keep them happy."
  • Goats are curious animals and love to eat different plants. Say: "Goats have special stomachs that help them digest all kinds of plants, even ones we can't eat!"
  • Feeding animals is a way to show them we care for them. Say: "When we feed the chickens and goats, we are helping them stay strong and showing them love."
  • Animals have different preferences for food. Say: "Just like how we all have favorite foods, chickens and goats have foods they like best too!"
  • Observing animals can teach us about their habits. Say: "By watching how the chickens and goats act after eating, we can learn more about what they like to do during the day."
  • Always wash your hands after handling animal feed. Say: "It's important to wash our hands to stay clean and healthy after feeding the animals."
