Objective

By the end of this lesson, Amari will be able to recognize and count numbers up to 5 using Sesame Street characters.

Materials and Prep

  • Sesame Street toys or books
  • Colorful blocks or toys for counting
  • Clear space for activities

No prior knowledge needed, just enthusiasm and curiosity!

Activities

  • Counting with Elmo: Use Elmo toys to count from 1 to 5. Encourage Amari to touch each Elmo as you count.
  • Matching Game: Show pictures of Sesame Street characters and ask Amari to identify and match them with the corresponding number of blocks.
  • Cookie Monster's Snack: Give Amari 5 pretend cookies and count them together as they "feed" Cookie Monster.

Talking Points

  • Elmo: "Look, here's Elmo! Can you say hi to Elmo?"
  • Counting: "Let's count together: one, two, three, four, five!"
  • Matching: "Can you find the Big Bird picture? Let's match it with the Big Bird toy!"
  • Cookies: "Yummy cookies for Cookie Monster! Let's count them: one, two, three, four, five!"
