Dolly Reads!
Welcome to our special reading time all about dolls!
Materials Needed:
- Your favorite doll(s)
- A simple picture book about dolls (e.g., 'My Doll' or similar easy reader)
- Letter 'D' flashcard or cutout
- Sight word cards ('a', 'is', 'the')
- Paper and crayons
- Optional: Doll clothes or accessories
Let's Get Started!
1. Meet the Dolls (5 mins): Bring out your favorite doll! Let's talk about our dolls. What are their names? What color is their hair? What clothes are they wearing? Introduce words like 'doll', 'eyes', 'hair', 'dress'.
2. Letter Fun - 'D' is for Doll (10 mins): Look! This is the letter 'D'. 'D' makes the /d/ sound. Can you say /d/? 'Doll' starts with 'D'! Let's trace the letter 'D' in the air with our fingers. Can you find anything else in the room that starts with the /d/ sound?
3. Story Time (15 mins): Let's read our book about dolls! Your doll can listen too. While reading, point out the dolls in the pictures. Pause and ask simple questions like, 'What is the doll doing?' or 'What color is her dress?' Point out our sight words ('a', 'is', 'the') when we see them in the book.
4. Sight Word Play (10 mins): Let's look at our sight word cards: 'a', 'is', 'the'. Can you find these words in our book? Let's try to read them together. We can clap each time we read a word!
5. Dolly Drawing (10 mins): Let's draw a picture! Draw your favorite doll, or draw something that happened in our story. While you draw, tell me about your picture. Can you write the letter 'D' somewhere on your picture?
Wrap-up: Great reading today! You and your doll were wonderful listeners and learners. We learned the letter 'D', read some words, and enjoyed a story about dolls!
