  • Pencil or pen

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start Minecraft and enter a creative mode world.
  2. In creative mode, you have unlimited resources and can freely explore and build. This will allow us to focus on learning Earth Science concepts without limitations.

  3. Explore the Minecraft world and observe the different biomes.
  4. Take note of the various types of biomes you encounter, such as forests, deserts, mountains, and oceans. Observe the differences in vegetation, landforms, and climate.

  5. Create a mini ecosystem in Minecraft.
  6. Choose a biome and recreate its characteristics within Minecraft. Include appropriate plants, animals, and environmental features to simulate an ecosystem. Consider factors like temperature, rainfall, and soil type.

  7. Observe the effects of natural disasters in Minecraft.
  8. Trigger natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or floods within your Minecraft world. Observe the impact on the environment, including changes in landforms, vegetation, and potential hazards.

  9. Reflect and discuss.
  10. Write down your observations and reflections on the relationship between Earth Science and Minecraft. Discuss the similarities and differences between the virtual world and the real world.
