Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic concepts of biology and apply them to the study of squishmallows.
Materials and Prep
- Squishmallows (at least 3 different types)
- Pen and paper
- Computer or mobile device with internet access for research
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Start by observing the different squishmallows you have. Take notes on their appearance, size, texture, and any other interesting features you notice.
- Research the biology of animals that squishmallows are based on. Find information on their habitats, diet, reproduction, and any unique characteristics they possess.
- Compare the information you found with the characteristics of the squishmallows. Do they accurately represent the animals they are based on? Are there any differences?
- Write a short report or create a presentation summarizing your findings. Include pictures of the squishmallows and the animals they represent.
Seventh Grade Talking Points
- "Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with the environment."
- "Squishmallows are plush toys designed to resemble different animals, such as cats, dogs, and unicorns."
- "Animals have specific characteristics, such as body structure, behavior, and adaptations, that help them survive in their habitats."
- "Researching the biology of animals helps us understand their unique features and how they are adapted to their environments."
- "By comparing the characteristics of squishmallows with the animals they represent, we can determine if they accurately depict the real animals or if there are any artistic liberties taken."
- "Creating a report or presentation allows us to communicate our findings and share our knowledge with others."
