Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore and create with clay using natural resources, while learning basic math, physical education, and science concepts.

Materials and Prep

  • Clay
  • Natural resources (leaves, twigs, stones, etc.)
  • Large plastic mat or tablecloth for easy cleanup
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Water for hydration

No prior knowledge necessary, just a curious mind ready to explore!

Activities

  • Nature Walk: Take a nature walk to collect natural resources like leaves, twigs, and stones.
  • Clay Creations: Use the collected natural resources to create sculptures and patterns in the clay.
  • Counting Fun: Count the number of leaves or stones used in the creation.
  • Physical Play: Incorporate movement by dancing around while holding the clay creations.
  • Science Exploration: Discuss how natural resources come from the environment and can be used in art.

  • "Look at all the pretty leaves and twigs we found outside! Let's use them to make a special clay creation."
