Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basics of plants and how they grow.

Materials and Prep

  • Coloring pencils or crayons
  • Blank paper
  • Access to a garden or outdoor space

No prior knowledge required, just bring your curiosity!

Activities

  • Plant Observation: Go outside and observe different plants. Draw your favorite plant and label its parts.
  • Seed Planting: Plant a seed in a small pot. Water it and place it in a sunny spot. Watch it grow over the next few weeks.
  • Nature Scavenger Hunt: Look for different types of leaves, flowers, and seeds in your garden or nearby park.

  • Plants Need Sunlight: "Plants need sunlight to make food and grow big and strong. Just like we need food to grow!"
  • Plants Have Roots: "Plants have roots that help them stay in the ground and drink water. Roots are like a plant's drinking straw!"

  • Plants Have Different Parts: "Plants have roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. Each part has a special job to help the plant grow."

  • Plants Come in Many Shapes and Sizes: "Plants can be tall like trees or small like flowers. They come in all shapes and colors!"
