Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to demonstrate basic jumping skills and understand the importance of physical activity for their health.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for jumping
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Parent/guardian supervision

Activities

  1. Warm-up Jumping Jacks:

Start by standing with feet together and hands by the sides. Jump and spread legs apart while raising arms above the head. Jump again to return to the starting position. Repeat 5 times.

  2. Animal Jumping:

Ask the toddler to imitate different animal jumps. For example, pretend to be a bunny and hop like a bunny, or pretend to be a frog and jump like a frog. Encourage creativity and make it fun!

  3. Jumping Over Obstacles:

Set up soft cushions or pillows as obstacles on the floor. Ask the toddler to jump over them one by one. Start with low obstacles and gradually increase the height as they become more comfortable.

  4. Jumping Rope:

If you have a jump rope suitable for toddlers, introduce them to jumping rope. Show them how to hold the handles and swing the rope over their head. Encourage them to jump over the rope as it comes around.

  5. Cool Down Stretch:

Finish the lesson with some gentle stretches. Encourage the toddler to reach for their toes, stretch their arms overhead, and do some light leg stretches.
