Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate basic drawing skills and create a simple artwork.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Blank paper

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Introduction to Basic Shapes: Start by explaining to the student that many drawings can be broken down into basic shapes. Demonstrate how to draw simple shapes like circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. Encourage the student to practice drawing these shapes on their own.
  2. Step-by-Step Drawing: Choose a simple object or animal for the student to draw. Break down the drawing into simple steps and guide the student through each step. For example, if drawing a cat, start with a circle for the head, then add the body, legs, and tail step by step. Emphasize the importance of observation and taking their time.
  3. Create an Artwork: Once the student feels comfortable with basic shapes and step-by-step drawing, encourage them to create their own artwork using the skills they have learned. They can choose a subject of their choice, whether it's a landscape, a favorite animal, or a still life. Remind them to use their imagination and have fun with their drawing.
