Materials and Prep
- Whiteboard or paper
- Markers or pencils
- Super Mario-themed flashcards (you can make your own by drawing or printing pictures of Super Mario characters and items)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduce Super Mario-themed flashcards to the student. Show each flashcard and ask the student to name the character or item depicted.
- Write the name of each character or item on the whiteboard or paper, leaving out one or two letters. Ask the student to fill in the missing letters to complete the spelling of each word.
- Play a spelling game using the flashcards. Shuffle the flashcards and place them face down. Take turns with the student flipping a card and spelling the word correctly. If the word is spelled correctly, the player keeps the card. The player with the most cards at the end wins.
- Encourage the student to practice writing the words on their own. Provide guidance and support as needed.
