Materials and Prep
- Camera (can be a smartphone camera)
- Pen and paper for notes
- Access to outdoor or indoor spaces for photography
No prior knowledge required, just bring your enthusiasm for photography!
Activities
- Activity 1: Rule of Thirds
Take several photos using the rule of thirds technique. Divide your frame into 9 equal sections and place your subject along the lines or at the intersections. - Activity 2: Leading Lines
Find natural or man-made lines in your environment and use them to lead the viewer's eye towards your subject. Take photos experimenting with different types of lines. - Activity 3: Framing
Look for natural frames like doorways, windows, or tree branches to frame your subject within the photo. Practice taking photos using framing techniques.
Talking Points
- Rule of Thirds:
"Imagine your photo divided into 9 equal sections like a tic-tac-toe board. Place your subject along these lines or at the intersections to create a more visually appealing composition." - Leading Lines:
"Lines in a photo can be used to guide the viewer's eyes towards the main subject. Experiment with different types of lines like roads, fences, or even shadows." - Framing:
"Using natural frames within your photo can add depth and context to your subject. Look for objects around your subject that can act as a frame, like archways or branches."
