Objective
By the end of this lesson, Kelsey will be able to identify and understand diagraphs in words.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: paper, colored pencils or crayons
Prep: None
Activities
Draw pictures of words with diagraphs and color them in. For example, draw a ship and color it blue to represent the "sh" diagraph.
Go on a diagraph scavenger hunt around the house. Find objects that start or end with diagraphs like "ch" or "th".
Practice writing diagraphs on paper. Write "ch", "sh", "th" and other diagraphs multiple times.
Talking Points
"Diagraphs are when two letters make one sound. Like 'sh' in 'ship'."
"Can you say 'ch' like in 'chair'?"
"Let's find things that start with 'th', like 'thumb'."
"When we color the ship blue, we remember the 'sh' sound."
