Objective

By the end of this lesson, KAUATOA will learn about Autism and understand that everybody is different in their own special way.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Colorful markers or crayons
  • Comfortable space to sit and work
  • Open mind and willingness to learn

Activities

  • Drawing Feelings: Draw different facial expressions and discuss what emotions they represent.
  • Role-Playing: Act out scenarios where understanding differences is important, like sharing toys or helping a friend.
  • Creating a "Differences" Poster: Make a poster celebrating the uniqueness of each individual, including KAUATOA.

Talking Points

  • Quotation: "Autism is a unique way of seeing the world. Just like how we all have different favorite colors, people with Autism experience things differently too."
  • Quotation: "It's okay to be different! Our differences make us special and interesting. Imagine how boring it would be if we were all exactly the same."
