Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand numbers and how to count and add them together.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencils or crayons
- No prior knowledge needed
Activities
- Counting Fun: Draw some shapes on the paper and count the sides of each shape. How many sides does a square have? How about a triangle?
- Number Hunt: Look around your house and find objects to count. Count how many chairs are in the room, how many books on the shelf, or how many toys in the toy box.
- Addition Adventure: Practice adding numbers by drawing some simple addition problems. For example, draw 2 apples plus 3 apples and count how many apples there are in total.
Talking Points
- "Numbers are like magic symbols that help us count things. When we see a number, we know how many things there are."
- "When we count, we say the numbers in order. Let's practice counting together: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... Great job!"
- "Adding is like putting things together. If we have 2 toys and we add 3 more toys, how many toys do we have altogether? Let's find out!"
- "Counting and adding can be so much fun! It's like solving puzzles with numbers. Are you ready for more number adventures?"
