Materials and Prep

Materials: None

Prep: Familiarize yourself with basic emotions (happy, sad, mad, scared) to guide Nova effectively.

Activities

  • Emotion Charades: Act out different emotions (e.g., happy, sad, surprised) and have Nova guess what emotion you are showing.

  • Emotion Faces: Draw simple faces showing different emotions and ask Nova to identify each emotion.

  • Emotion Freeze Dance: Play music and when the music stops, call out an emotion for Nova to express through movement.

Talking Points

  • "Nova, it's okay to feel different emotions like happy, sad, or mad. Let's learn how to express them."

  • "When you feel happy, you can smile and jump around. Can you show me how you look when you're happy?"

  • "If you feel sad, it's okay to cry. Crying can help you feel better. Do you want a hug when you're sad?"

  • "When you're mad, you can take deep breaths and count to three. Can you show me how you calm down when you're mad?"

  • "Remember, it's important to talk about how you feel. I'm here to listen and help you understand your emotions."
