Objective

By the end of this lesson, Rihanna will be able to successfully grow plants from seeds and understand the basic concepts of plant growth.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed:

  • Seeds of your choice (e.g., sunflower, bean, tomato)
  • Small pots or containers
  • Soil
  • Watering can or spray bottle
  • Sunlight or grow light
  • Journal or notebook

Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a clear workspace near a window or under a grow light where the plants can receive sunlight.

Activities

  • Planting Seeds: Help Rihanna plant seeds in pots filled with soil. Show her how to make a small hole in the soil, place the seed inside, cover it gently, and water it.
  • Observation Journal: Encourage Rihanna to keep a journal to record daily observations of the plants. Have her note changes in growth, watering schedule, and any other observations.
  • Watering Routine: Teach Rihanna the importance of maintaining a regular watering routine for the plants. Explain how overwatering and underwatering can affect plant growth.
  • Sunlight Experiment: Conduct an experiment with Rihanna to observe how plants respond to different amounts of sunlight. Place some plants in direct sunlight and others in partial sunlight to see the difference.

Talking Points

  • Plants need water to grow: "Plants drink water through their roots, just like we drink water to stay healthy."
  • Plants need sunlight for energy: "Sunlight helps plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. It's like plants having a yummy meal!"
  • Plants grow from seeds: "Seeds are like tiny packages that contain everything a plant needs to start growing. It's like a magic trick waiting to happen!"
  • Observing plant growth: "By keeping a journal and observing our plants every day, we can see how they change and grow. It's like watching a plant story unfold!"
  • Experimenting with sunlight: "Plants react differently to sunlight. Some like to bask in the sun all day, while others prefer a bit of shade. Let's see what our plants prefer!"
