Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to confidently identify and compare fractions using flashcards.

Materials and Prep

  • Fraction flashcards (you can create your own by cutting paper into equal pieces)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Clear workspace

No prior knowledge needed, just come with an open mind and ready to have fun!

Activities

  • Create your own fraction flashcards: Cut paper into equal pieces and write fractions on them.
  • Use different colors to make it more engaging!

  • Match the fraction to the visual representation: Draw shapes to represent fractions and match them with the correct fraction card.
  • This will help you visualize fractions better!

  • Order the fractions: Shuffle the cards and put them in order from smallest to largest.
  • Practice comparing fractions while having fun!

Talking Points

  • When introducing fractions: "Fractions represent parts of a whole. For example, 1/2 means one out of two equal parts."
  • On comparing fractions: "To compare fractions, look at the denominators first. The fraction with the larger denominator is divided into more parts."
  • Explaining equivalent fractions: "Equivalent fractions represent the same value, even though they may look different. For example, 1/2 is the same as 2/4."
