Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and apply basic math concepts through fun Lego activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Legos of various shapes and colors
  • A flat surface to build on
  • Paper and pencil for calculations
  • No prior knowledge required, just bring your enthusiasm!

Activities

  • Building Challenge: Use Legos to create different shapes and structures. Count the number of Legos used for each creation.
  • Measurement Fun: Measure the dimensions of your Lego creations using other Legos as units. Practice addition and subtraction with the measurements.
  • Pattern Play: Create colorful patterns with Legos and identify the mathematical sequence behind each pattern.
  • Math Puzzles: Solve math problems by using Legos as visual aids. For example, use Legos to demonstrate addition and subtraction problems.

Talking Points

  • "Let's start by counting the number of Legos we have. Count along with me!"
  • "Can you tell me how many red Legos you used in your structure? Let's write it down!"
  • "How can we measure the length of this Lego tower? Let's use another Lego as a unit and count how many fit!"
  • "What comes next in this pattern? Let's try to predict the next shape based on the pattern we see!"
  • "Let's use these Legos to solve a math problem. How many Legos will we have if we add 5 blue Legos to our existing tower?"
