- White paper
- Crayons
- Watercolors
- Paintbrush
- Water cup
- Paper towels
Prep:
- Set up a workspace with a protective covering
- Fill the water cup with water
- Have paper towels handy for any spills

Activities

1. Crayon Resist Painting: Have the student draw a picture using crayons on the white paper. Then, have them paint over the drawing with watercolors to see the crayon resist the paint. 2. Color Mixing: Show the student how to mix different colors using the watercolors. Let them experiment with mixing colors to create new shades. 3. Nature Art: Go outside and collect leaves or flowers. Place them under the paper and let the student rub crayons over the paper to reveal the textures of the nature items.

Talking Points

  • "Art is a way to express yourself using colors and shapes. What colors do you feel like using today?"
  • "When we mix blue and yellow, we get green! What other colors can we create by mixing different colors together?"
  • "Nature has so many beautiful textures. Can you feel the bumps on the leaf? Let's see how we can transfer that texture onto our paper."
