Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their creativity through crafting, enhance reading comprehension through picture books, and learn about different subjects in a fun and interactive way.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful construction paper
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick
- Crayons or markers
- Picture books on various topics
- Comfortable reading area
No prior knowledge needed. Just come with a curious mind and a willingness to learn!
Activities
- Crafting Time: Let's start by creating a colorful collage using the construction paper, scissors, and glue. Encourage the student to cut out shapes and glue them onto a larger paper to make their own unique artwork.
- Storytelling with Pictures: Pick a favorite picture book and read it together. After reading, ask the student to pick their favorite part of the story and draw a picture to represent it. This will help with both creativity and reading comprehension.
- Math with Shapes: Use the crayons or markers to draw various shapes on a piece of paper. Ask the student to count the number of sides on each shape and name them. For example, "This is a square. How many sides does it have?"
Talking Points
- Crafting: "Today, we are going to use our imagination to create a beautiful collage. What colors do you want to use?"
- Reading Comprehension: "Let's read this story together. Can you tell me what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the book?"
- Shapes and Math: "Look at this shape. It has four sides. Do you know what shape it is? It's a square! Can you find other shapes around us?"
