Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and paper
  • Ruler
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)

No specific prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Research geometric shapes commonly used in fashion design, such as triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles. Look for examples of clothing or accessories that incorporate these shapes.

  2. Choose one geometric shape that you find interesting and create a fashion sketch or design using that shape as the main element. Use your ruler to ensure straight lines and accurate proportions.

  3. Identify different types of patterns commonly found in fashion, such as stripes, polka dots, or chevron. Analyze these patterns and determine the geometric shapes or symmetry involved.

  4. Create your own unique pattern by combining different geometric shapes. Experiment with different arrangements and color combinations to make your pattern visually appealing.
