Materials and Prep

Materials: Map of Australia, colored pencils, notebook

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the map of Australia and plan a pretend road trip route.

Activities

1. Map Exploration: Study the map of Australia and identify major cities, landmarks, and natural features.

2. Road Trip Planning: Plan a pretend road trip route across Australia, deciding which cities to visit and what landmarks to see.

3. Travel Journal: Create a travel journal where you document your imaginary road trip, including drawings and descriptions of the places you "visited".

Talking Points

  • Australia is a country known for its unique wildlife, such as kangaroos and koalas. Remember, "Australia is home to many animals that can't be found anywhere else in the world!"
  • A road trip is a fun way to explore different parts of a country. You can say, "Imagine driving for days and seeing new things at every turn!"
  • When planning a road trip, it's important to know the distances between places. You can mention, "Australia is a huge country, so road trips can take a long time!"
  • Maps are helpful tools to navigate and understand the geography of a place. Tell Mason, "Maps show us where we are and where we want to go!"
  • Keeping a travel journal helps us remember our adventures. Encourage Mason by saying, "Writing and drawing in a journal lets us capture our memories forever!"
